What we see when we read by Peter Mendelsund February 2016 5/5 Mind-blowing. That’s the first word that comes to mind when I think about the reading experience, because What we see when we read is a complete reading experience. From the words, to the gripping images and book design, it’s impossible to stay unmoved after closing it. I strongly believe that every reader needs to read this, since it unravels a lot about the mystery of reading. The thoughts are so well-crafted and I would agree with every single one of them, although some of them were a bit repetitive. It forced me to think more about what was going on in my brain when reading fiction, and I can say that it definitely impacts the way I read now, mostly I don’t try to create an image of a character anymore. The art is beautiful and matches the book and its chapters perfectly, and it shows that Mendelsund is a prized book designer. I’ll definitely check out other books by him in the future and will get my hands on his copy of his other book: Cover.
